Commentary

Four letters of the graffito, the first two ΥΡ and the last two ΕΩ seem to be quite clear. The third letter is in doubt: if this is a mu, the shape would be unusual for the Archaic period, with the two middle hastae connecting to the outer hastae below the apices, and the middle hastae approaching each other, but practically not touching at the bottom. If we read Υρμεω as the Genetive of a personal name, no such names appear to have been attested. If this is a misspelling or an unusual phonetization, then perhaps Ἑρμέω was intended and we have a dedication.
